Damage / Security Deposit

How a card authorisation hold may be placed, captured for substantiated damage or released when no claim is made.

Draft notice: This text is a working draft pending final legal review and approval by the owner.

1. Purpose and amount

A booking may require a security deposit to cover damage, missing items, exceptional cleaning, lost access devices or other evidenced loss caused during the stay. The applicable amount and timing are shown in the booking details or communicated before the hold is placed.

2. Authorisation hold

The security deposit is normally a temporary card authorisation hold, not an immediate charge. It may be placed close to arrival using the payment method authorised for the booking. The hold reduces the card's available balance for the period set by the card issuer.

Card-network authorisations expire. For a longer stay, Situation, s.r.o. may ask the guest to renew an expiring authorisation, with notice, so that the required deposit remains valid.

3. Capture following damage

Situation, s.r.o. may capture all or part of the authorised amount only for a reasonable claim connected with the stay. The guest will be informed of the claim and, where reasonably available, given supporting information such as photographs, replacement invoices or cleaning records.

If evidenced loss exceeds the held amount, Situation, s.r.o. may seek the balance through a separate lawful claim. The guest may respond with relevant information or dispute the charge through the contact details below.

4. Release when no claim is made

When no claim is made, Situation, s.r.o. cancels or allows the authorisation to expire so the hold is released. The guest's bank controls how quickly the available balance is restored; this may take several business days and is not a refund because no funds were captured.
